Rise and fall of complex web design
With a strong background in website development I find the evolution of the web to be fascinating. The daily, weekly, monthly and yearly trends of web design never fail to peak my interest especially when I start connecting the trends to the rise and fall of web technologies. Challenges are given and eventually solved only to be re-worked in another form on the web. The composure of sites created with Adobe Flash before the exile of that technology were gorgeous; but upon its collapse the designing world for the web went to a more simplistic route due to our basic understanding of the available technology as we build towards the complexity that we once had with the previous technology.
Possible thesis statement:
The rise and fall of web technologies determines the complexity of web design. By comparing the past and current web technology with the web design trends of today it will be possible to predict the next design trend based on the acceptance rate of new emerging web technology.
Action Plan
- Research – Research past web design trends and their connections with the past web technology. See how the trends eventually bridge to the newer web technology as the older ones are phased out.
- Identify the Pattern – By identifying the pattern between design trends and web technology it will allow for easier prediction of the next new phase of web design.
- Design and develop – an interface to hold the information found and for the program to build upon as it crawls the web searching for emerging web technology and their ties to web designs. This interface will allow one to see what trend is emerging with resource that they can use to learn more about it. It will also allow one to see certain web technology on their decline.
Concerns for this topic
The research for this topic will be intriguing but the concern lies with creation of the trend prediction dashboard. The ideal design for the information will be like brain nodes that branch off to other areas that relate to it. Any of those nodes can lead to a dead end. My concern with this project is the creation of the crawlers to harvest the information of the web which could be problematic since the data that they receive could be false positive or entirely irrelevant.
